About this grant
Years after hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated Louisiana’s Gulf Coast, the region is still trying to recover from the disaster. Despite a low unemployment rate, there are approximately 750,000 people who are employable but unable to find work. Alternative staffing organizations, which are temporary staffing firms owned and operated by community-based agencies, have the potential to bridge the gap between the needs of employers and employees. This grant will support the continued development of UpLIFTD, one of three alternative staffing organizations created to serve people with barriers to employment in the south Louisiana area.
