About this grant
The South African Institute for Advancement promotes philanthropy in South Africa and assists civil society organizations to raise funds. This grant will support the grantee to conduct research on the funding practices of two state agencies, the National Development Agency and the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund. The project will explore ways in which civil society can collaborate with these institutions and inform their funding practices based on the development needs of the country. Research on the past practices of these institutions will be undertaken using evidence from organizations that have received funding from them. Examples of lotteries in other countries and what informs their practices will also be investigated and compared with the practices of the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund. The findings will be disseminated and used to advocate for improved funding practices by the state agencies.
