About this grant
The Buckham Fine Arts Project was incorporated in 1984 by a group of area artists who saw the need for an exhibition/performance venue in downtown Flint that would direct its creative attention to presenting contemporary art in all forms for the benefit of Flint and mid-Michigan, focusing on works and concepts that are not being provided by other area organizations. Over the past 25 years, more than 275 exhibitions of visual art; poetry readings; performance art events; and dance, music, and film presentations have taken place. Over 5,000 artists from all over Michigan have presented their work in the grantee’s gallery space. The state of Michigan, which historically has provided about one-third of the project’s operating support, eliminated its funding for 2010 due to state budget cuts. This grant will assist the grantee in continuing its regular schedule of events and provide funds to support efforts to broaden its base of donors, increase fundraising efforts, and stabilize its long-term financial situation.
