About this grant
This renewal grant will support public oversight and scientific monitoring of environmental and social impacts of energy and infrastructure investment by the Brazilian National Development Bank in the Amazon rainforest. Specifically, the project will build upon knowledge and relationships created previously from case studies and monitoring of the Belo Monte hydroelectric power plant in the Xingu basin of the Brazilian Amazon. The Instituto Socioambiental is a Brazilian public interest nonprofit organization focused on integrated solutions to environmental and social challenges in the region. This project renewal will support consolidation of fieldwork to build a scientific baseline of information regarding the impacts of the Belo Monte project on biodiversity, aquatic species, and local forest-dependent communities.
