About this grant

The Education and Training Unit focuses on democracy, development, and human rights education in South Africa. It specializes in training, facilitation, and materials development for community-based organizations, public servants, and public representatives. Past support assisted the Education and Training Unit to develop and disseminate a Paralegal Training Manual to community-based paralegals, advice workers, and community activists who provide legal advice and related services to poor people. The manual covers a range of subjects that concern poor people including consumer protection, housing, protection of children, labor law, sexual offenses, refugees, and asylum seekers. Over the next two years, the grantee will disseminate a revised paralegal training manual; train users of the manual; update materials online to cover new laws and other relevant topical information; and conduct research for the next edition of the manual, scheduled for release in 2015.
