About this grant
Flint Downtown District Weed and Seed, a project of the United Way of Genesee County, has been awarded a federal grant to operate an Ex-Offender Community Service Employment Initiative. In partnership with New Paths, Inc., and the Genesee County Land Bank Authority, the program will provide supportive services and transitional employment for 75 to 125 ex-offenders in Genesee County. New Paths will offer various counseling services and career planning assistance to participants, while the Land Bank will provide on-the-job training and work experience to help ex-offenders assimilate back into society. The goals of the program are to reduce recidivism, create jobs for ex-offenders, increase public safety, and improve the physical appearance of Flint neighborhoods. Because the federal funding is delivered through a quarterly reimbursement process, this repayable grant will provide the United Way with sufficient funds to operate the program.
