About this grant
This grant will support a collaboration between “Journalism That Matters” and the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri – Columbia to hold two conferences on the future of journalism. A 2010 conference in Detroit will focus on how the voices of people of color can be more present in the news. In 2011, another conference will convene in the Piedmont/Triad area of North Carolina, which is reinventing itself after an economic crash following the downfall of the textile industry. Approximately 100 media innovators will come together for each three-day conference to share innovations and ideas already in process in the new media landscape. The University of Missouri, founded in 1839, has a diverse enrollment with 30,200 students from every county in Missouri, every state in the nation, and 100 countries.
