Promoting Environmental and Social Standards in the Financial Sector

About this grant

Urgewald works to establish strong, binding environmental and social standards for international development finance institutions and to garner ongoing public support for responsible and accountable public international financial institutions. To achieve these goals, the grantee undertakes research, education, and advocacy efforts with a global network of local communities, nongovernmental organizations, and other partners. Urgewald has played a key role in ensuring that the World Bank Group’s environmental and social safeguards continue to maintain the highest standards for development finance lending. Over the next grant period, the grantee will provide an analysis of the impacts of international development finance and the environmental and social standards needed to protect communities.
