About this grant
This grant will provide ongoing support to the Fair Food Network’s Double Up Food Bucks Project at the Flint Farmers’ Market. The project provides food stamp recipients with incentives to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at farmers’ markets and vegetable stands in Michigan. In addition to increasing access to healthy foods, the project aids local farmers in reaching more diverse markets. The Flint site is part of a statewide replication initiative, as well as larger efforts to embed fresh food incentives into federal food assistance policy. The Mott Foundation’s investment in this project will be matched by the Open Society Foundations as part of the Special Fund for Poverty Alleviation’s grantmaking initiatives in Michigan.
