About this grant

The project goal is to increase levels of youth civic participation and initiative for positive social action in the Western Balkans. To this end, YouthBuild USA will strengthen and expand its programs in at least three communities with the goal of demonstrating the program’s effectiveness and scaling it up to other parts of the region. Building on its successes during the previous two years, the grantee will engage up to 400 young people in community improvement projects, build the capacity of local professionals and nonprofits to implement its programs in the region, and establish a multistakeholder consortium willing and able to carry the YouthBuild program forward in the Western Balkans. During 2011-2012, programs were piloted in five communities in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia, involving a total of 580 young people. The grantee will implement this project through its YouthBuild International division and a network of local nonprofit partners.
