About this grant

The project goal is to increase levels of youth civic participation and initiative for positive social action in Southeast Europe. YouthBuild USA will support YouthBuild programs in Bulgaria, Romania, and Serbia. YouthBuild is a model for helping young people learn life and job skills, serve their communities, and gain practical work experience. During the grant period, more than 250 young people annually will engage in an intensive, full-time educational program addressing a range of practical and life skills and will participate in community service projects. The grantee will also build support for the program from diverse stakeholders in order to sustain established program sites and expand the program to other parts of the region. During 2015–2016, more than 500 young people participated in YouthBuild programs. These participants made a significant impact on their communities through housing construction for Roma families, repairs to parks and playgrounds, and organizing events for children and elderly people. The grantee will implement this project through its YouthBuild International division and a network of local nonprofit partners.
