About this grant
The project goal is to enhance public participation in decisionmaking processes by improving accountability and transparency of public institutions in Kosovo. The Balkan Investigative Reporting Network Kosovo will combine hard-hitting journalism and civic activism to encourage people to be informed and engaged in this critical period in Kosovo’s history. Specific activities will include training investigative journalists and field researchers; systematic monitoring of public institutions with a focus on courts, health services, education, and public procurement; and producing high quality print and broadcast media designed to inform the public and policymakers. During 2015-2016, the grantee produced two weekly television programs that include in-depth reporting and debates; published two online, weekly magazines; contributed to regional and national news publications; monitored the performance of courts, hospitals, and schools in 26 municipalities as well as the implementation of bilateral agreements with Serbia on the normalization of relations; and prepared detailed reports and analyses based on the information collected. The grantee is a registered nongovernmental organization in Kosovo based in Pristina and part of a Balkan network of similar organizations (each with the same name) in six countries.
