About this grant
There is a long history of automotive manufacturing facility closings in mid-Michigan, because the auto industry has been operating in the region for over a century. Many communities in the region are struggling with the monumental task of formulating a strategic plan for repurposing these facilities and the properties they occupy. The goal is to replace a significant portion of lost labor income and tax base once generated by these facilities. Assisting communities in repurposing former auto facilities is the next logical step for the Automotive Communities Partnership program. This grant to the Center for Automotive Research, its strong ties to the automotive industry, and a federal grant to study auto facility repurposing will make this research effort very successful.
