About this grant
This renewal grant will support the Connecting Leaders Fellowship Program of the Association of Black Foundation Executives that provides outstanding professional development opportunities to African-American philanthropic staff. Since 2005, 50 men and women have participated in the program, with several participants advancing to executive-level positions within the field. The core components of the fellowship program are the week-long leadership summit, the executive coaching, and the monthly distance learning calls. In 2010, the fellowship program was redesigned to offer fellows greater opportunity to understand the connection between philanthropy and black communities in midsized cities. As a result of the Foundation’s support and the new emphasis on smaller communities, the grantee has decided to host the leadership summit in Flint for a second year, where the participants will gain an increased understanding of how institutional and grassroots philanthropy can impact midsized communities.
