About this grant
This grant will support the Connecting Leaders Fellowship Program of the Association of Black Foundation Executives that provides outstanding professional development opportunities to African-American philanthropic staff. Since 2005, 50 men and women have participated in the program, with several participants advancing to executive-level positions within the field. The core components of the fellowship are the week-long leadership summit, the executive coaching, and the monthly distance learning calls. In 2010, the fellowship was redesigned to offer fellows greater opportunity to understand the connection between philanthropy and black communities in midsized cities. With continued support from Mott and a new emphasis on smaller communities, the grantee has decided to host the leadership summit in Flint, where the participants will gain an increased understanding of how institutional and grassroots philanthropy can impact midsized communities.
