About this grant
For the past several years, stakeholders in Louisiana have discussed the need for an independent, science-based institute that could effectively address the state’s coastal restoration challenges. The sense of urgency for such an institute grew in 2010, when the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico showed the world the importance of Louisiana’s coastland and offshore waters. The Baton Rouge Area Foundation, a highly respected community foundation, is working with public officials and private stakeholders to turn this institute idea into a reality. With partial funding from Mott, the grantee will complete early stage planning for the institute, with the goal of launching the new organization in early 2012.
