About this grant
This grant increase will enable Genesee/Shiawassee Michigan Works! to complete the final phase of the Flint/Genesee Earn & Learn Initiative. Launched in 2011, this initiative was designed to help disconnected youth (ages 18-24), unemployed adults (particularly minority males), and ex-offenders reentering the workforce enhance their work skills and ultimately secure unsubsidized employment opportunities. Genesee/Shiawassee Michigan Works! is one of three sites participating in the initiative — additional sites are located in Detroit and Saginaw. All three sites were supported by a public-private partnership between the State of Michigan, Michigan grantmakers, and the Open Society Foundations. This grant increase will support three primary program activities: education/training, subsidized employment, and supportive services.
