About this grant
This grant will enable Career Alliance, Inc., to implement the Earn & Learn Initiative in Flint and Genesee County, targeting 264 disconnected youth (18-24), young minority males (including former prisoners reentering the workforce), and chronically unemployed adults that want to re-enter the workforce. The initiative is designed to spark immediate, entry-level work opportunities while simultaneously increasing workers’ skills and helping them manage barriers to success. The grantee will partner with its higher education partners — Mott Community College, Baker College, and University of Michigan-Flint — to provide career pathways to help individuals advance through training and acquire postsecondary credentials and a living-wage job. The Open Society Foundations’ (formerly Open Society Institute) investment in the Earn & Learn Initiative will be matched 1:1 by both the Mott Foundation and the state of Michigan.
