About this grant
This grant will enable Southwest Housing Solutions to continue implementing the Earn & Learn Initiative in Southeast Michigan, targeting disconnected youth ages 18 to 24, formerly incarcerated prisoners, and chronically unemployed individuals who want to reenter the workforce. The initiative is designed to spark immediate entry-level work opportunities while simultaneously increasing workers’ skills and helping them manage barriers to success. The grantee will work with a variety of local service providers, training and education partners, and employers to implement this initiative. The Open Society Foundations’ (formerly Open Society Institute) investment in the Earn & Learn Initiative will be matched 2:1 by the Kellogg and Skillman foundations, the New Economy Initiative, and the state of Michigan.
