About this grant
This grant will enable Southwest Housing Solutions to implement the Earn & Learn Initiative in Southeast Michigan, targeting 850 disconnected youth (18-24) and 260 formerly incarcerated prisoners and chronically unemployed individuals residing that want to re-enter the workforce. The initiative is designed to spark immediate, entry-level work opportunities while simultaneously increasing workers’ skills and helping them manage barriers to success. The grantee will work with a variety of local service providers, training and education partners, and employers to implement this initiative. The Open Society Foundations’ (formerly Open Society Institute) investment in the Earn & Learn Initiative will be matched 2:1 by Kellogg and Skillman Foundations, the New Economy Initiative, and the state of Michigan.
