About this grant
The project goal is to foster citizen participation in local communities in Ukraine. To this end, the Institute of Socio-Cultural Management will train a new cohort of up to 60 community activists as part of its School of Civic Participation, while further enhancing skills of graduates of the first session of the school. Participants will receive ongoing support in pursuing community projects through the grantee’s local activity centers, which will be based within existing community institutions and will serve as focal points for facilitating community-based initiatives. Successful examples of community mobilization in Ukraine will be regularly disseminated through publications, a regional television program, and a dedicated Web site. In 2012-2013, local activity centers were established in 20 communities throughout Ukraine, and a regional television channel dedicated a new program to the work of community activists. Registered in 2001 and based in Kirovohrad, the Institute of Socio-Cultural Management promotes social action, accountability, and citizen participation in public life in Ukraine, with a particular focus on community-level initiatives.
