About this grant
This grant will enable the County of Saginaw to implement the Earn & Learn Initiative in Saginaw County, targeting 80 disconnected youth (18-24), young minority males (including former prisoners re-entering the workforce), and chronically unemployed adults that want to re-enter the workforce. The initiative is designed to spark immediate, entry-level work opportunities while simultaneously increasing workers’ skills and helping them manage barriers to success. The grantee will collaborate with its higher education partner — Delta College — to provide customized education and training activities that meet the needs of local employers. The Open Society Foundations’ (formerly Open Society Institute) investment in the Earn & Learn Initiative will be matched 1:1 by both the Mott Foundation and the state of Michigan.
