About this grant
The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports seeks to improve the health of Michigan residents. A nonprofit organization, the Michigan Fitness Foundation, was created to implement the council’s mission. The foundation seeks to inform policies and programs that promote healthy livable communities, schools, and neighborhoods throughout Michigan, with an emphasis in low-income, urban communities. In accordance with its mission, the grantee helped lead initiatives to modernize Michigan’s transportation systems. With prior Mott support, the grantee provided technical assistance to a statewide collaborative seeking to address the transportation needs of all Michigan residents, including the full spectrum of ages, physical abilities, socioeconomic levels, and racial/ethnic backgrounds. With renewed support, the grantee will continue assisting its partners by providing trainings, convenings, and small grants to build the capacity of the statewide collaborative and its members, broaden pubic engagement, and support important, community-level transportation projects.
