About this grant
Established in 1945, the Michigan Association of Planning is dedicated to promoting sound comprehensive community planning that benefits the residents of Michigan and includes opportunities for a variety of lifestyles and housing, employment, commercial activities, and cultural and recreational amenities. This grant will support the organization’s work to develop and disseminate a comprehensive model program that intentionally integrates innovative transportation applications, including complete streets, with the practices of healthy urban design and placemaking. This will include: 1) selecting a community, or a cluster of adjacent communities, to serve as a project pilot site; 2) conducting site analysis and asset mapping; 3) hosting workshops and clinics to develop a set of recommendations for changes to plans and ordinances; 4) applying the model process in up to two additional communities; and 5) producing a handbook to encourage replication in other communities.
