About this grant
The program goal is to strengthen the financial sustainability of a leading Bulgarian foundation that supports the development of local communities and grassroots, nonprofit organizations in Bulgaria through tailored capacity-building and funding programs. To this end, the Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation will run an endowment building program to raise at least $250,000 to match the $500,000 provided by the Mott Foundation and increase its total endowment to at least $1 million by the end of 2015. Through this process, the grantee will strengthen its overall fundraising strategies and capacities and access new sources of funding. The grantee has a long-term commitment to strengthening its role as a grantmaker in the field of civil society development and maintaining its annual grantmaking budget at the level of at least $400,000. Established in 2001, the grantee is working to support community development, active civic participation, integration of marginalized groups, and mobilization of local resources for social development through providing training, consultancy, and small grants to grassroots organizations and community leaders. In addition, the grantee is managing a national program that is supporting existing and new community foundations in Bulgaria.
