About this grant

The Tax Policy and Charities Project aims to: 1) make available the latest information on changes to the nonprofit sector because of tax policy modifications; 2) finance research to improve tax policy; and 3) involve scholars and policy officials in both analysis and discussion of new tax proposals. Activities will include conferences and roundtable discussions on specific tax policy issues and a series of research papers, policy briefs, articles, congressional testimony, and other materials regarding major tax and charity issues. Recent outputs include estimates of the impact of presidential candidates’ tax proposals on charitable giving and a brief on the universal charitable tax deduction. The project is implemented by the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center of the Urban Institute. The Urban Institute is a national think tank that gathers data, conducts research, evaluates programs, offers technical assistance overseas, and educates Americans on social and economic issues to foster sound public policy and effective government.
