About this grant
The program goal is to strengthen active citizen engagement in local community development in Ukraine. Under the Act Now project, the East Europe Foundation will promote the use of information and communication technologies as tools for citizen mobilization and responsive local government. The grantee will expand the Open City Web platform from six to ten cities while also advocating for its inclusion in national Open Government initiatives. The grantee will also work to identify crowdfunding and other resource mobilization strategies to support civic initiatives arising under the project. In 2012-2013, the grantee successfully developed the platform and linked it to the information systems of six local authorities. As a result, over 260 local issues ranging from garbage collection to utilities maintenance were successfully resolved. The East Europe Foundation was registered in 2007 as an indigenous Ukrainian foundation and supports initiatives in such areas as corporate social responsibility, citizen engagement, and public-private partnerships.
