About this grant
The program goal is to strengthen active citizen engagement in local community development in Ukraine. Under the Act Now project, the East Europe Foundation will promote the use of information and communication technologies as tools for citizen mobilization and responsive local government. In 2014-2015, the grantee successfully expanded the number of participating municipalities from 5 to 18. Effective use of the Open City Internet platform resulted in the resolution of almost 4,000 local issues. In Phase 3, the grantee will seek to expand the platform from 18 to more than 40 municipalities. It will enhance its functionality to encourage greater citizen engagement initiatives and will seek to ensure sustainability of the project through establishment of a social enterprise in partnership with the Ukrainian Association of Open Cities. The East Europe Foundation was registered in 2007 as an indigenous Ukrainian foundation and supports initiatives in such areas as corporate social responsibility, citizen engagement, and public-private partnerships.
