About this grant
The program goal is to strengthen active citizen engagement in local community development in Ukraine. Under the Act Now project, the East Europe Foundation will promote the development and use of information and communication technology as a tool for citizen mobilization. The grantee will help develop and test a map-based Internet portal to enable citizens in six pilot communities to inform government departments about local community issues and to monitor any steps taken by responsible government departments in response to identified problems. In addition, the portal will provide an online forum that can assist offline community groups to self-organize and take responsibility for addressing these issues collectively, if the government cannot or does not address them on its own. The East Europe Foundation was registered in 2007 as the localized descendant of the Eurasia Foundation office in Ukraine and supports initiatives in such areas as corporate social responsibility, citizen engagement, and public-private partnerships.
