About this grant
The program goal is to increase youth awareness of and engagement with the promotion and protection of human rights in Ukraine. To achieve this, the Association of Ukrainian Human Rights Monitors on Law Enforcement will educate young people about their rights with respect to treatment by state law enforcement agencies and engage them in systematic efforts to assert civil control over these agencies’ work. In addition, the grantee will strengthen the capacity of nonprofits working with youth to promote and protect human rights. During 2014-2016, the grantee’s systematic monitoring of police performance was used to refine practice within the reformed police service. It also produced an array of online, offline, and mobile resources providing advice to citizens on how to interact with law enforcement agencies. Established in 2010 by former staff of the Human Rights Monitoring Department of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the grantee’s mission is to develop effective means of civil control over and cooperation with Ukraine’s law enforcement agencies.
