About this grant

This grant will support the continued development of the Global Civil Society Information System. This system will help countries integrate data on civil society organizations, philanthropy, and volunteerism into their economic statistics; provide vastly improved access to information on civil society organizations worldwide to both donors and beneficiaries; and increase the transparency of civil society organizations. The Center for Civil Society Studies will work with the United Nations Statistics Division to complete revisions to its guidance to countries on gathering statistics about nonprofit institutions. In partnership with TechSoup Global, it will also pilot the use of data coming out of this effort for at least six European countries. The grantee will then encourage implementation of the resulting procedures into the statistical systems of select non-European countries. The Center for Civil Society Studies is part of Johns Hopkins University, one of America’s premier research universities.
