About this grant

ProBono.Org is a public interest legal services clearinghouse that was established in 2006 with the aim of encouraging legal professionals to provide free legal services to poor and vulnerable people in South Africa. Established in 2010, the community advice office support project facilitates relationships between community advice offices and attorneys in small towns and rural areas so that poor people can access free legal services close to where they live. The project is currently implemented in the Limpopo, Northwest, and Gauteng provinces. To date, 33 law firms have been successfully recruited to participate in this project. This grant will support the grantee to recruit more lawyers in small and rural towns to offer free legal services to poor people, offer training and support to paralegals in community advice offices, and conduct human rights awareness campaigns in collaboration with community advice offices.
