About this grant

The project goal is to increase public knowledge of civic engagement practices in Russia. The Agency for Social Information has long gathered and distributed information about social and civic initiatives from across Russia. Recently it has identified and promoted the use of digital technologies in support of civic engagement. With Mott support, the grantee will join these two strands through the development of regional communication centers in five Russian regions. These centers will operate as hubs both for gathering information about the work of civic groups and for disseminating best practices related to use of information and communications technologies and multimedia resources in support of civic participation. Ultimately, these efforts will seek to reframe the narrative around the nonprofit sector to highlight its positive contributions to society. Founded in 1994, the Agency for Social Information is a Moscow-based, independent, information agency which draws on a network of 28 regional affiliates and provides informational support to the nonprofit sector in Russia.
