About this grant

The National Alliance for the Development of Community Advice Offices is committed to the development and long-term sustainability of community-based advice offices in South Africa. The grantee, initially a project of the Black Sash Trust, was established in 2005 by human rights organizations in response to the limited prospects for the long-term sustainability of community-based advice offices in South Africa. Past support assisted with the establishment of the Association of Community Advice Offices of South Africa. The association’s aim is to bring together all community-based advice offices into one national association to be the voice of the sector. This grant will enable the grantee to support the Association of Community Advice Offices of South Africa through management support and mentorship; guiding the board and strengthening governance; assisting with developing norms and standards policies for the community advice office sector; and providing training to community-based paralegals through the Dullah Omar School. This grant has been made possible by a partnership with The Atlantic Philanthropies in support of the community advice office sector.
