About this grant

Our State of Generosity is a project aimed at capturing valuable learning about historical philanthropic leaders and their lessons in leadership in the state of Michigan over the past 40 years to be disseminated through a highly interactive online platform. Lessons will focus on the creation, cooperation, and efficiency of four philanthropy/nonprofit sector statewide infrastructure organizations — Council of Michigan Foundations, Michigan Nonprofit Association, Michigan Community Service Commission, and Grand Valley State University Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy. Established in 1992, this center has focused on increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the charitable sector by conducting research, teaching effective practices, and providing pathways to service. It is a unit of the College of Community and Public Service at Grand Valley State University, which was chartered by the Michigan legislature in 1960 in response to the need for a public, four-year college in Grand Rapids.
