About this grant

This grant will enable Michigan State University to conduct a thorough examination of the range of policy solutions being employed to address the fiscal and economic problems facing many older industrial communities, including Flint, Michigan. To complete the proposed research project, the grantee will review and analyze the current causes of chronic fiscal stress; identify various policy options that have been proposed and/or enacted to address fiscal challenges in Flint and other communities; compare the relative effectiveness of various policy options; and produce a report and a series of outreach events to help shape debates and responses to fiscal and economic stress situations in Michigan and elsewhere.
