About this grant

The project goal is to strengthen the field of philanthropy in the Western Balkans. The Catalyst Foundation will work regionally to promote the growth and improved transparency of the individual and corporate philanthropic culture in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. During 2016-2017, the grantee will: 1) expand and enhance the use of historic and current data on giving trends in the Western Balkans; 2) increase the quantity and quality of individual giving through crowdfunding and collective giving approaches, such as giving circles; 3) provide targeted services to corporate and private foundations to help improve philanthropic practices; and 4) strengthen the grantee’s organizational capacities. During 2014-2015, the grantee gathered and analyzed data on giving and published six reports annually on philanthropy at national levels in the Western Balkans, as well as annual regional, comparative reports. The grantee also strengthened individual involvement in and awareness of philanthropy in Serbia by organizing three giving circle events and publishing a practical guide to organizing giving circles for other nonprofits and community groups. The grantee made numerous presentations about its research and analyses and disseminated and published them via print media and social media. The Catalyst Foundation was registered in 2013 in Serbia and is based in Belgrade.
