About this grant
The project goal is to strengthen discussion and interaction among civil society organizations and movements in Poland and other Eastern European countries. To this end, Stowarzyszenie im. Stanislawa Brzozowskiego – Krytyka Polityczna will organize seminars and short-term fellowships for civic leaders, journalists, and researchers from Central and Eastern Europe to enable them to analyze the changing political and social context. In addition, the grantee will work with partner organizations to develop and publish a series of sociopolitical debates and to organize international gatherings with the participation of civic activists from other European countries to discuss relevant East-West issues and joint action. The grantee was established in 2003 by a group of young political scientists and civic activists with the mission to combat economic, social, and cultural exclusion and increase civic participation in public life in Poland. During the past grant period, the grantee created a network of 200 activists, journalists, and academics working on strengthening civil society; organized study trips and internships in Poland for civic leaders from the region; and published a series of materials on democracy and civil society in the Polish, Russian, and Ukrainian languages.
