About this grant
The Lusa Community Chest was founded in 1990 to support community-based initiatives in the Free State Province of South Africa. It makes small grants to community-based organizations and nonprofits working in poor communities. It also works with local businesses to design corporate social responsibility initiatives that are responsive to community needs and promotes the development of young people. The Generation @ Junior Community Chest project promotes youth philanthropy by encouraging young people in schools to be involved in improving the quality of life in their communities. Young people learn new skills that empower them to initiate projects that respond to the daily struggles of communities. This grant will support the grantee to introduce the Generation @ Junior Community Chest project in more schools and equip the youth with the necessary skills to initiate projects where they live. It will also provide support to existing Generation @ Junior Community Chest projects in schools, and introduce the project to the Community Chests of South Africa network — a network of six community chests working across the country.
