About this grant

The project goal is to introduce and develop the concept of community schools in Romania as a tool for creating effective partnerships between communities and schools. The New Horizons Foundation will create a project team of experienced community workers and educators, which will cooperate with the International Centre of Excellence for Community Schools to increase the team’s knowledge and understanding of the community school concept and practice around Central and Eastern Europe. In addition, the grantee will introduce the concept in 30 schools and strengthen the schools’ capacities to operate as community schools. The grantee will also document the experiences of the pilot phase and strategize for the expansion of the community school project in Romania in the future. The grantee was established in 1999 with the mission to promote and develop adventure education and service learning pedagogy for young people in Romania. Today, the grantee runs programs for young people in cooperation with teaching staff in more than 140 schools in 22 of the 41 counties in Romania.
