About this grant
Over the past five years, the international community has begun to focus on addressing the lack of access to electricity for poor communities in much of the developing world. President Obama’s Power Africa initiative takes important steps to address this issue. Friends of the Earth will apply its expertise in working with domestic development and finance agencies to ensure that small-scale, off-grid renewable energy models are at the core of this international effort. It will undertake a plan of work that simultaneously combines research, advocacy, and capacity building to improve U.S. government policies, financing, and programs in order to advance renewable energy access in Africa.
