About this grant
The University of the Witwatersrand was established to provide high-quality, internationally competitive education, founded on high academic standards, cutting-edge research, public engagement, and productive partnerships with leading institutions throughout the world. The Chair in African Philanthropy (based at the business school) was established to generate knowledge on philanthropy in the continent from an African perspective. Past support enabled the university to set up the necessary structures and systems that will advance teaching and learning, promote dialogue that enriches practice, and produce new knowledge on African forms of giving. In addition, a visiting chair was appointed to oversee the establishment of the Chair on African Philanthropy. This grant will enable the Chair on African Philanthropy to deliver a teaching program on African philanthropy, produce research, host annual learning events for practitioners and academics from across the continent, and build partnerships and networks across the globe.
