About this grant

This grant will support the continued organizational and programmatic development of People in Need, one of the largest nonprofits in Central and Eastern Europe. Founded in 1992, the grantee provides relief and development assistance in response to natural disasters and violent conflict; promotes human rights, civic engagement, and civil society development; and supports social inclusion and integration for marginalized groups. Since its establishment, the grantee has worked in more than 50 countries. In 2014, the grantee delivered $35 million in aid to 21 countries, including $14.6 million in Syria, mostly in the form of food aid to more than 1.1 million people. During the grant period, the grantee will expand its aid missions in Syria and Ukraine, respond to other humanitarian needs around the world, continue programming to reduce the social exclusion of children from marginalized groups in the Czech Republic, increase programming to encourage civic engagement and leadership by young people in the Czech Republic, and provide technical assistance and support to civil society organizations and human rights defenders in countries under threat. People in Need is based in Prague, Czech Republic.
