About this grant
With offices in South America, Asia, Africa, and the United States, International Rivers is one of the most effective international, nongovernmental organizations working on river protection. By partnering with local communities in more than 40 countries, the grantee successfully promotes sustainable uses of freshwater systems around the world. Additionally, it plays a major role in international efforts to strengthen policies at public financial institutions. During the previous grant period, the grantee provided important information on the impacts of hydroelectric energy development during the World Bank safeguards review and during consideration of major large-scale hydroelectric development in the Greater Amazon Rainforest. This grant will support staff working on Andes-Amazon energy finance and development to strengthen social and environmental standards and promote sustainable solutions for river protection.
