About this grant

Established in 2001 as a project of the Midwest office of the Izaak Walton League of America, Wind on the Wires is a national conservation organization dedicated to advancing renewable energy in the Midwest. It became a stand-alone, nonprofit organization in 2011. With partial Mott support, the grantee will convene a 20-member committee that includes representation from state agencies, municipal associations, community leaders, local decisionmakers and administrators, and universities to identify best practices for developing utility-scale wind projects in local communities. The committee will develop model placement criteria for wind farms, work to reduce negative impacts to local communities, build relationships with municipal leaders, and evaluate how communities can benefit from wind power.
