About this grant
The Detroit Regional Chamber Foundation is dedicated to creating a robust economy for businesses and individuals. This grant will support a session at the 2017 Mackinac Policy Conference focused on educating participants on why the state should analyze how the system of municipal finance impedes or accelerates a thriving community. The current municipal financing systems in Michigan do not provide sufficient revenue to adequately fund municipal services. The decline in revenue to cities over the past decade hinders the ability of cities to provide quality of living experiences that retain and attract businesses and residents. These dysfunctional systems most severely impact cities with a high population of low- and moderate-income residents.
