About this grant
This grant supports an affinity group of the European Foundation Centre to improve the effectiveness of grantmaking in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union and to encourage new donor activity in the region. To this end, the grantee will organize the annual meeting of the group, called the Grantmakers East Forum, for interested grantmakers and donors working in this region. In 2018, the meeting will take place in Budapest, Hungary, and will focus on the theme of shrinking civic space. In 2016, the center organized the forum’s annual meeting in Hamburg, Germany, and in 2017, it took place in Vienna, Austria. These annual meetings provided opportunities for networking and information exchange, encouraged development of new philanthropic initiatives, and promoted good grantmaking practices. Based in Brussels, Belgium, the European Foundation Centre is an international association of foundations and corporate funders dedicated to strengthening European philanthropy.
