About this grant

The project goal is to develop the community foundation field and strengthen infrastructure for community foundations in Europe. In collaboration with European community philanthropy support organizations, Bundesverband Deutscher Stiftungen will manage and develop the European Community Foundation Initiative. Working with its partners, the grantee will strengthen the capacity of existing community foundations and their associations, promote the community foundation concept and facilitate the establishment of new community foundations, promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a framework for community foundations and strengthen the visibility and representation of community foundations vis-à-vis the public sector on the national and European levels. During the previous grant period, the grantee provided learning and exchange services to more than 300 community foundation practitioners from 23 European countries through study visits, bilateral exchanges and thematic meetings. Also, the grantee pioneered a training program on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a framework for planning and reporting the contribution of community foundations to the development of their communities. In addition, the grantee published guides to the national community foundation movements in Italy, Romania and Hungary. Bundesverband Deutscher Stiftungen is based in Berlin, Germany.
