About this grant

The Great Lakes are one of our country’s greatest natural treasures, comprising about 20 percent of the earth’s fresh water supply and providing drinking water supplies for 42 million people. The federal Clean Water Act is one of the bedrock laws that protects this globally important resource, and the act allows citizens and citizen groups monitor and help implement its key provisions. The Environmental Law & Policy Center, a key regional environmental group based in Chicago, will monitor implementation of the act in six Great Lakes states.
