About this grant
The program goal is to foster the development of a conducive environment for philanthropy across countries by providing rigorous, comparative data and by raising awareness and understanding of philanthropy, especially in developing countries. In 2016, Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy took responsibility for publishing the Index of Philanthropic Freedom, which was first published by the Hudson Institute in 2015. The most recent version of the index was published in April 2018. The grantee has since been promoting, presenting, and educating on the research. The grantee has also prepared for the next round of research to begin in 2020 with the intent to publish in 2021. Following the publication, the grantee will create online and printed educational materials and organize events in the United States and globally to share results and generate debate. The Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University was founded in 2012. Its mission is to increase the understanding of philanthropy and improve its practice worldwide through critical inquiry, interdisciplinary research, teaching, training, and civic engagement.
